Spectating
At the bottom of the ramp, which is the only entry point to the lake there will be a tent for paying spectator entry and accomodation fees. There is a flat spectator entry fee of $20, weather your there for a day or a week, you will be given an spectators wristband to indicate you have paid your entry fees, wear it at all times.
You are NOT free to enter of go walking around the lake at your lesuire. For safety and environmental reasons there will be special areas assigned for spectating especially whilst the cars are racing. The pits will be open for you to enjoy during race times, but for security reasons will be closed to spectators at all other times. There are a couple of photography stations located next to the emergency vehicles, which will get you a little closer to the track. Access to these stations is coordinated by race control (Animal's Bus)
NOTE: Competition vehicles have right of way at all times, especially when in the pits.
Operational Plan
The Operational Plan describes the requirements to conduct the annual Speedweek held at Lake Gairdner in South Australia by the Dry Lake Racers Australia.
All motoring events have an element of public risk and potential for environmental impact. The Operational Plan has been compiled with due consideration to reduce these risks and to prescribe the tasks required to conduct a safe and enjoyable event for participants and spectators.
Accommodation
There is limited accomodation at Mt. Ive homestead, but most of this is booked from one year to the next. There are some shearers rooms available with dormitory style sleeping, but be quick and book ASAP. There is also a camping area at the homestead, tents and caravans are welcome, but you are in the outback so be prepared. Power, water (drinking), food and fuel, you have to be self sufficient, there is some power and showers. Mt. Ive also operate another campsite close to the canteen, the saltbush camp has two showers and 2 toilets. Only cold water and the water is limited. Fees are $7 per night payable at the canteen.
Many competitors and their teams and regular visitors have purchased beds in permenant structures at the DLRA camp. But there are plenty of un-powered sites, with toilets and showers available for Spectators. Fees are $10 per day plus $10 for diesel for the power generator. (stay 2 days and it's $30, say the week and it's $60) Fees can be paid at the tent at the bottom of the ramp.You will get a wristband to indicate you have paid your camping fees, wear it at all times.
An information sheet will be handed out to all, with track layout, race times, rules on Lake and Station property.
NOTE: There is strictly no camping upon the Lake itself.
Food; the Mt. Ive homestead will have the canteen on the edge of the lake operating from Saturday 6th March to Friday 12th March. Hours will be 8am till 10.30pm.
It will open Saturday night with a sausage sizzle, large selection of food and drinks will be available for lunch time and Sunday Night meal is Roast Chicken.
The Dinner menu for each day will be on a blackboard in the canteen. Meals will be the same as last year $15.00. The evening meals will be served from 6-6.30 until 8.30. Canteen /Bar will close approx 10-10.30. Breakfast will be served from 8.00am.
You will be able to by as much ice as you need $6 for a 5kg bag. We ask you to suport this because a DLRA member has put in a lot of effort to make this happen. When it could have been very difficult for all.
