Service Dorman Diesel

1. Description

This task is for servicing the Dorman Diesel Engine on 65kva Generator.

3. Duties

 

3.1 Volunteer Instructions

On the day of your duty, you report direct to Event Coordinator.

Make sure you sign the Volunteers Book next to your name.

The morning session is from 7.30am to about 12.00 noon.

The afternoon session starts at about 1.00pm till 6.00pm or close of business on that day.

You must be ready to start your shift at these times.

Make sure you have a hat, sunglasses, sun cream, snacks. Water is provided from the esky at the DLRA Camp and there is toilets at the camp.

4. Tasks

4.1 Before running the engine

  • Engine oil & filter change is usually done on Friday before Speed Week.
  • Generator is usually started Thursday morning to power camp.
  • This means the engine is run for 24 hours, getting hot to drain oil easier.
  • The oil drain plug is on the west side of oil pan, (bottom).
  • Drain pans are in cabinet under engine.
  • Used oil 20Lt tins are in the fuel shed.
  • Change oil filter while oil is draining from sump.
  • Refit sump plug & fill with new oil at either of the two orange caps to full mark on dipstick.
  • Turn fuel tap off at outlet of fuel tank.
  • Change the fuel filter by unbolting from housing, (bolt in top centre of housing).
  • After new fuel element is fitted turn fuel tap on.
  • Air needs to be bled from filter housing connections, low pressure side of injector pump & pipes to injectors at injectors.
  • This is done by cranking the engine & tightening connections as air is expelled from filter housing, then injector pump & then at injectors.
  • Can be difficult to remove air from injector pump.
  • Do not loosen all injector pipes at same time.
  • The engine will start on less than 6 injectors & clear remaining air as it runs.
  • Make sure alternator is charging as per start up instructions.
