TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

1. TRACK The total prepared racing surface from the 0 mile through the shut down area.  Includes also the safety zone and return road
2. COURSE A series of timed miles defined by mile boards and photocell timers located within a track.  For example: the 0-3 short course
3. INCIDENT A racing vehicle crash involving rescue and ambulance.  A spectator medical requirement involving ambulance.  A hot track incursion by a non-authorized vehicle
4. TRACK SAFETY ZONE Typically 300 metres (1,000 feet) laterally on each side of the race track.  May be marked by course spotter stations, flags, etc.  When any vehicle or personnel are inside the safety zone no new vehicles can be released by the starter onto the race track.
5. HOT TRACK Active racing vehicles on track

COLD TRACK

No racing vehicles on track.  The starter holds all race vehicles at the start line.
7. COURSE SPOTTER stationary personnel observing track operations from outside the safety zone.
8. TRACK ROVER Mobile personnel observing track operations and following selected race vehicles outside the safety zone to insure they are safe upon stopping.  Conduct track safety sweeps at the direction of the course controller. A mobile troubleshooter who reports to the track controller.
