Rookies will be required to make their first run at less than full throttle or less than full course length. Successful completion of the license requirements shall include, but not be limited to, starting line procedure, course navigation and shutdown procedure as determined by the Contest Board.
ALL NEW ENTRANTS SHALL ATTEND A ROOKIE ORIENTATION MEETING PRIOR TO THEIR FIRST COMPETITION RUN. A time and place for the orientation meeting will be announced at the start of the meet.
All rookie drivers will be limited up to a maximum 125 MPH on their first run.
The Technical Inspector will have issued a rookie sticker to be placed on the Rookies helmet.

See more information for Rookies.

Graduated Licensing System

Experienced drivers / riders holding licenses in a slower category must qualify for the next faster category by satisfactorily completing a run at a speed as close to the next faster category + / - 5 mph.

For a licensing run to be valid, the starter must be informed that the run is for licensing purposes prior to leaving the start line so that the entrant can be observed.

Where appropriate, the licensing run will include a parachute test. Where this applies, these will be conducted on category D passes and above

The categories are as follows:

Category E

Current and valid state driver’s license

Category D

125 to 149 MPH

Category C

150 to 174 MPH

Category B

175 to 199 MPH

Category A

200 to 249 MPH

Category AA

250 to 299 MPH

Unlimited

300 MPH and faster

Entrants upgrading their license are restricted to using Track 2 for license grades below 150 mph for cars and 175 mph for bikes.

Only 175, 200, 250 and 300 mph license runs will be made on Track 1.

Licenses will be periodically reviewed and reduced one license category for each three years of inactive competition.

175 mph License for cars

When entrants are driving cars and are making their 175 mph license run, they must be observed using their parachute. No parachute, no pass. Try again.

MOST IMPORTANT: The method for deployment of a chute is as follows; Just after going past the mile marker, pull the chute. Most importantly keep your foot on the accelerator until you feel the chute grab and the car start to decelerate, only then do you take your foot off the accelerator.

It is advisable to start practicing with your parachute before your 175 mph license run at say 150 mph, so that you are comfortable with the experience.
