And now for some sad news,
I've just been notified that Ross Brown is in hospital and will not be at Speed Week.

Ross Brown has previously been the DLRA Chief Motorcycle Inspector and has also been helping out Graham Hadley our current DLRA Chief Motorcycle Inspector at Speed Week over the last couple of years. Ross's absence will be sorely missed this year.

Graham will not be at Lake Gairdner until at leastFriday afternoon. Motorcycle Tech Inspection will probably not be taking place probably till Saturday now. He will also be bringing a shade structure as the other structure belonged to Ross.
We will all need to pitch in and give Graham a hand now where ever we can.

Please If you are talking to any bike guys that are entered pass on this info.

And here's hoping for a full and quick recovery for Ross.

There was an inspection of Lake Gairdner by DLRA members today. I am pleased to confirm that Speed Week is most definitely ON.

Track 1 is still a little soft after about the seven and a half mile, but if we don't get any more rain this should dry out. Plus we have just had the full moon so by the time we are ready to race the water table will be much lower.

Track 2 is fine and we will just have to be careful with placement of the return road.

Surface conditions are comparable with 2014, not quite as good as last year or 2015.

The Iron Knob - Kingoonya Road is very good. The road from the turn off to the water tanks not so much. And large patches of bull dust from the tanks to the lake.

The weather forecast for Speed Week is low to mid thirty's, pretty much ideal.

Thanks to Michael Brixton and the guys for making the effort today.

See you on the salt.

I have some news for for any media representatives attending Speed Week 2017 to consider and act upon. It is very disappointing and unfortunate to have to deal with significant change that has been imposed on us by the Department of Environment and Water, so close to Speed Week.

I have updated the media page on the DLRA website, I strongly suggest you have another good look at it.

We have received a new Commercial Film application form. We have been instructed to advise all media to submit an application whether they consider themselves to be comercial or not. My advice would be, I certainly would not be paying anything straight up, state your case, submit the form and then see what sort of a response you get.

Lastly the rules regarding the use of drones in National Parks in South Australia has also changed. If you intend bringing a drone to Lake Gairdner, you need to read this.

If you have any questions I will try and answer them

22/01/2017   See all the recent photos from the lake here! Thanks very much to Scott Lewis and Mal Hewett.
18/01/2017   Notice to all drone operators.
The DEW who are the managers of the Lake Gairdner National Park are currently formulating a Remotely Piloted Aircraft policy which will be in place for Speed Week 2017. Under this policy there will be no provision for recreational use, the only permitted use will be commercial use. If you were intending to take a drone to Lake Gairdner for Speed Week please register your interest with me so that I can keep you up to date with all developments. Email me at info@dlra.org.au Subject: Drone Operator
17/01/2017   Pre-Entries are now closed. All entries from now on will attract the additional $165 late entry fee.
17/01/2017   Lake report - after the 1 in 10 year storm last week there is minimal water on the lake. It only received 20mm. Mal Hewett had been out a couple of days before and the lake was virtually dry. with the surface being the best he has seen it.
26/12/2016   Final Inspection
Each year just prior to Speed Week there is a final inspection of the lake by DLRA members. For 2017 the final inspection of the lake will be on the Thursday 16th February 2017. I usually get a call that night or the next day and will post a notice here, on Facebook and on the forum.
17/12/2016   New for 2017, we are introducing a Drivers Profile form as part of the Entry Form. The idea behind this is that it will be used by our radio announcer at Speed Week when you and your vehicle are on the start line.

The DLRA were preparing to accommodate FIA and FIM records at Speed Week 2017.
With the withdrawal of the Target 550 team there seems to be little need for this now.
But just to be sure, is there anyone else out there that was planning to set international records in 2017?
