COURSE START UP PROCEDURES

Daily course start up and post incident start up

  a. Race Director / Course Controller will drive and inspect the course each day prior to beginning racing.  Make repairs as needed to flags and markers and note any soft or rough spots.
  b. Timing personnel will inspect and test the photocells and scoring computer daily prior to racing.
  c. Race Director will visually insure all Course Spotters are in position and confirm all radios are in working order prior to racing by conducting a radio check.
  d. Race Control Tower will check with Course Spotters to make sure they have water and lunch.  Tower may ask Security / Track Rover to run food / water out to Course Spotters if required.
  e. Race Director / Course Controller will visually insure rescue and ambulance are in place and ready for operations and conduct a radio check with both.

Track and equipment maintenance

  a. Race Director is responsible to be sure the racing surfaces, equipment, area and conditions are safe.  If not for any reason operations must be held.
  b. Flags and timing equipment is repaired as needed during racing operations.  Track is held when repairs are being made.
  c. Track equipment is inspected, repaired and maintained at the end of each racing day.
  d. Track surface is maintained as required with the drags at the end of each day.
Experience and knowledge of track preparation is required for drag operators.
  e. Periodically during the racing day each track should be held and a foreign object sweep conducted.  This can be done in conjunction with an incident or other track maintenance periods.
Track Rover, Security, Course Controllers or Course Spotters with vehicles can conduct the sweeps to save track down time.
