INTRODUCTORY MODULE (Available On-line!)

At the completion of this training, participants will have identified the positives of being an accredited motor sport official.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Identify the purpose of DLRA and the NOP Structure
  • Identify the ethical responsibilities of a DLRA official
  • Identify DLRA Integrity policies and procedures
  • Identify Gender and Cultural Awareness
  • Identify basic conflict resolution principles
  • Prepare for officiating at a DLRA event
  • Identify the many disciplines within DLRA Officiating

 

GENERAL OFFICIAL - Level 1 (Available On-line!)

Targeted at trainee officials who generally work alongside specialist officials, including:

Start line assistants, Timing Assistants, Inspection Assistants, Communication, Vehicle recovery, General track, Spectator marshals, Observers, Equipment supply and maintenance , Competitor relations, Environmental officer.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Identify the personal resources required to perform various DLRA event roles
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to the various roles of the General official in a team environment
  • Identify roles and structure at a DLRA event
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of radio etiquette techniques and hand signal techniques for DLRA events and demonstrated ability to apply them
  • Identify and apply circuit event specific NCR and regulations
  • Identify  the duties of General Officials
  • Illustrate protocols for communicating within a land speed environment

 

Specialist EVENT Officials

CLERK OF COURSE - Level 1

The main roles of the Clerk of Course are as follows.

Manage the safety of those involved in the event, including:-

General public, Spectators, Officials, Competitors, Service and pit crew, Ensure the integrity of the course, including the security of the course, road closures and ensuring there is no accidental intrusion.

Control the event, including emergencies, Maintain the event time table and program and modify as necessary , Apply DLRA Rules and Event Supp Regulations, Co-ordinate officials at the event, Manage Incidents , Ensure Emergency Plan is implemented when and if needed, Liaise with Civil Authorities, Ensure relevant permissions are obtained, Promote the event , General Public, Prospective Competitors, Officials

In addition to these general roles, are roles which are specific to each discipline.

This module is designed for officials of Speed Week.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to the various roles within the event command team environment
  • Identify the roles and structure of DLRA events
  • Identify protocols for communicating within an event command environment
  • Describe the judicial process potentially flowing from a land speed event

 

EVENT ADMINISTRATION - Level 1

The roles of Event Administration include: Organisation of the Event, Entrant Registration, Distribution of relevant paperwork, Schedule of the Event, Arranging officials, Monitoring & fine tuning the event

This module is designed for officials at Speed Week.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Produce relevant documentation before, during and after the event
  • Apply Regulations and NCR
  • Demonstrate an understanding of competitor and officiating roles and requirements
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to the various roles of a DLRA event in a team environment

 

TIMEKEEPER Level 1

The Time keeper registers competitors times and produces results using timing equipment.

The Learning Objectives of this module are:

  • Operate timing equipment in a land speed environment
  • Present accurate and credible timing and scoring results
  • Identify and apply Regulations and NCR’s
  • Disseminate results in a timely manner 

 

STARTER - Level 1

The starter is responsible conducting safety checks and releasing vehicles at the start line for and is also responsible for ensuring the competition is conducted safely.

The Learning Objectives of this module are:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of Starting in a land speed environment
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of radio etiquette techniques and hand signal techniques for DLRA events and demonstrated ability to apply them
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to stewarding
  • Identify critical incident procedures and manage it in accordance with the stewards functions

 

INSPECTOR - Level 1

Inspectors are responsible for checking the compliance of vehicles and the eligibility and safety requirements of DLRA Competition Rules.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of scrutineering in a land speed environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of the relevant Technical Regulations and NCR’s
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to scrutineering within a land speed environment

 

RACE DIRECTOR - Level 1

For those officials who seek to officiate and perform the role of Race Director / Event Director, assume a team-leader role.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Identify relevant documentation before, during and after the event
  • Apply competitor and officiating requirements at DLRA events
  • Identify various roles of the Race Director at DLRA events.
  • Demonstrate judicial procedures at DLRA events
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to Race Director role 

 

DLRA ACCREDITED TESTING OFFICER (DATO) - Level 1

This course is designed to provide training to become a DLRA Accredited Testing Official detailing the actions required to select a competitor or official for alcohol testing, through to the reporting and referral to the Event Committee of the Meeting following a positive alcohol confirmation reading.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Create an awareness of the principles of the DLRA Anti-Doping Policy
  • How to follow the DLRA alcohol breath testing procedure
  • How to operate a Lion SD 400 Alcolmeter (breathalyser)
  • How to take a random sample from a subject
  • How to fill out the relevant paperwork

The participants of the DATO Training Module must hold a DLRA Accredited General Officials license to ensure a basic understanding of the structures and operational roles within motor-sport.

 

DLRA SAFETY 1ST REPRESENTATIVE - Level 1

This module is designed to up-skill DLRA Officials in the area of Occupational Health and Safety with an emphasis on the links with the Vet Sector Certificate II unit ‘Apply Safe Work Practices’ in the Certificate II Motor Sport.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Apply safety procedures
  • Apply emergency procedures

 

CATEGORY REPRESENTATIVE - Level 1

The Category Representative is considered to be the definitive source of technical knowledge on their particular category.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of the DLRA Rulebook with particular emphasis upon their chosen Category and how the rules apply to classes within that category.

RECORDS CERTIFICATION OFFICER - Level 1

COMPETITION ENTRY NUMBERS COORDINATOR - Level 1

EVENT COORDINATOR - Level 1

Event Coordinators are basically responsible for the set up and pack up of the event.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of Event coordination in a land sped environment
  • Identify the personal resources required to perform various DLRA event roles
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to the various roles of the Event Coordinator in a team environment
  • Identify roles and structure at a DLRA event

 

Specialist ADMINISTRATION Officials

 

SECRETARY

The main purpose of the secretary is that of primary administrator for the club. The Secretary carries out or delegates all the administrative duties that enable the club and its members o function effectively.

The Learning Objectives of this module are:

  • Good organisation skills.
  • Good time management.
  • Good communications skills, written and verbal.
  • Discretion.
  • Confidence with IT and computer packages.
  • Accuracy and good attention to detail.
  • An ability to stay calm and tactful under pressure.

 

TREASURER

The treasurer is in control of the club's money, its collection, banking and disbursement. The treasurer is responsible for keeping accurate books that will enable him/her to give a full financial report whenever requested.

The Learning Objectives of this module are:

  • Keeping the DLRA Books
  • Competent with using MYOB
  • Preparing monthly statements
  • Banking

 

RULEBOOK COORDNIATOR

The coordinator has the sole responsibility to collect and collate rule additions, changes and deletions to the DLRA rulebook and publish on a yearly basis.

MEDIA RELATIONS MANAGER

The media manager represents the club and interacts with all forms of the media, including TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, on-line and social.

MARKETING MANAGER

The main purpose of the Marketing Manager is to bring sponsorship into the club and to manage advertising within the clubs publications and website, and advertising externally to promote the club.

  • Ways to promote you club
  • Prepare a marketing plan
  • Working with Media
  • Writing a media release
  • Seeking and servicing a sponsor

  • Preparing a sponsorship proposal
  • Follow up
  • Servicing your sponsors
  • Evaluate or sponsorship program

 

MERCHANDISE MANAGER

The DLRA offers a number of souvenir and collectible merchandise items to help raise funds for the club. Making this activity a very important role in the club.

STATE DELEGATE

A State Delegate is the members representative for that State.

EVENT ASSESSOR

Event Assessors are officials who conduct observed assessments on DLRA officials.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Plan and organise an assessment  process
  • Assess the competence of a candidate

 

COURSE PRESENTER

Course Presenters deliver CAMS Training Modules.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Facilitate learning by using a range of learning methods
  • Plan and review training to take into account participant needs and use a range of learning aids outline the presenter / facilitator’s role in competency-based training for the NCAS and NOAS.

The Learning Objectives of this module are:

 

 

OTHER SPECIALIST TRAINING MODULES

A specialist is defined as those officials who possess specialist qualification/skills for a particular land speed role.

 

FIRE AND RESCUE - Level 1

Fire and rescue marshals attend to fires within competition vehicles and on the track and are responsible for the extrication of competitors from their vehicles if required.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Identify the personal resources required to perform the role of a fire and rescue official
  • Identify the roles and structure at DLRA events
  • Apply communication techniques appropriate to the fire and rescue official in a team environment
  • Demonstrate conflict resolution techniques
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fire and rescue controls and how to extinguish fires and employ rescue techniques in a land speed environment
  • Demonstrate understanding of the control of fire and rescue vehicles in response to an incident.

 

Level 2

Level 2 Officials who seek to progress and assume team leader roles in officiating complete this training. The Level 2 Module is a generic training module, applicable to all disciplines and focuses on leadership and management.

The Learning Objectives for this module are:

  • Perform management techniques appropriate or relevant to leading a team of officials engaged in the conduct of motor sport events up to a National level.
  • Utilize communication and interpersonal techniques appropriate to dealing with a range of motor sport stakeholders.
  • Apply effective Critical Incident Management Techniques.
  • Identify legal issues impacting on motor sport up to and including National level events.

 

Level 3

There are currently no training modules for level 3 graded licenses. Instead, progression to level 3 is achieved through a combination of event assessment, supporting references and peer recommendation.

The assessment criteria for Gold upgrades are:

  • Perform management techniques appropriate or relevant to leading a team of officials engaged in the conduct of a motor-sport event at a national and international level
  • Identify legal issues impacting on motor sport up to an including International level events.
  • Utilize communication and interpersonal techniques appropriate to dealing with a range of motor sport stakeholders.
