Lake Entry

1. Description

The DLRA lease the lake from Department of Environment and Water and we get charged a considerable fee for the use of the lake, and the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corporation also charge the DLRA a fee for monitors to be at Speed Week.
To help recover these costs the DLRA collects a LAKE ENTRY FEE in return they issue a wristband, we also give a program and a small orientation and safety induction, before anyone enters the lake.

We also use this opportunity to collect camping fees for people staying at the DLRA camp (NOT the Mt.Ive Camp).

There is a checkpoint at the edge of the lake where all this take place.

To volunteer for this job use the Volunteer Register.

2. Responsibility

You will be responsible for

  • collecting lake entry fees and DLRA Camp fees,
  • checking that people have their wristband on when they enter the lake,
  • as well as providing a safe environment around the area at the edge of the lake.
  • You will also give a brief orientation and safety indiction to all those entering the lake for the first time.

NOTE: Some people will have already paid their Lake Entry and / or DLRA Camping Fees online. They should have a ticket that they can print off or you will need to check the lists.

From Tuesday to Friday, early in the morning there will be Record Run entrants who need to get onto the lake as soon as possible as they will be the first vehicles of the day. These vehicles will have a special pass to identify them. They do not have to queue with all the other vehicles and once the lake is open, after dusting off, they can proceed straight onto the lake.

3. Duties

There will be some keep left signs on the road leading up to the check point, this is to help keep the road clear for officials and record run entrants. During peak times (morning) there will be a large queue of cars wanting to get onto the lake, your job is to make sure that no one enters the lake before 7.00am as this is a condition of our lease and in respect to the traditional owners. The only exception will be Officials and Record Run Entrants. These cars should have a Support Vehicle sign in the windscreen and a special Record Run Entrant sign in the windscreen as well.
People will be impaitent especially when the queue is long and everyone will have a special reason why they need to get on urgently. You need to be respectful, but advise them that them talking to you is making the process longer for everyone and unless they have the necessary credentials they just have to wait. If somebody starts to give you a really hard time refer them to the Race Director via Channel 10 on the UHF radio, he will gladly sort them out.
