ACCIDENT RESPONSE PROCEDURE

Pre event staff meetings

  a. Race Director will hold a meeting with Medical and Rescue to go over the general operation of the event.
  b. Technical Chairman will take the Rescue crew around to all the enclosed stream liner vehicles for rider removal procedures.  The Rescue Crew will take notes for each vehicle. This can be done during inspection if desired.

Racing accident on track

  a. Course Spotter will inform the Clerk of Course of the event and its location mile marker.
  b. Race Control Tower will inform Rescue and Medical of the accident and location and dispatch them.
  c. Clerk of Course will inform the Race Director who will hold all courses until the event is stabilized and rescue / medical support is available.
  d. Starters will hold all vehicles, inform Assistant Starter and Wranglers who will inform all entrants in the staging lanes.
  e. Course Spotters will keep all entrants and crew vehicles away from the incident until authorized by the Race Director.
  f. The only personnel allowed at an incident site are:
    i.    Rescue
    ii.   Medical
    iii.  Security
    iv.  Race Director and / or Course Director
  g. Race Control Tower will announce the incident on the private band DLRA radio and officials with radios can inform entrants as required.
  h. Once the incident site is stabilized, any track and staff maintenance can be conducted during the down time waiting for Rescue and Medical to return to station.  Prior to return to racing the track will be swept by the Race Director and/or Starter.
  i.  Resumption of racing will follow the same procedure as morning startup.

Non racing accident or medical incident

  a. When Security or officials are informed of the incident, that person will call Race Control tower and Medical / Rescue will respond.
When calling in the incident make sure you know where and what.  Remain at the scene or go to the scene to direct Rescue and / or Medical and crowd control
  b. As soon as Medical are dispatched all courses will be held and Starters will not release entrants.  The Starter will inform entrants in their lanes what is happening and to stand down
  c. Medical to respond.  When this happens all racing must stop until Medical returns to its station
  d. Course restart will be the same as morning startup

After the accident

    No DLRA officials or volunteers will make any statement or opinion about the incident to any news media or any member of the public.  If anyone requires any information about the incident they must go to the Race Control Tower where the Clerk of Course will make a report available or not at his / her discression.
  a. Course Spotters, Starters, Track Rovers or Security will not allow ANY news or photographers to approach the scene without the express authorization of the Race Director.
  b. Crew and family members must wait at a Course Spotter station until the incident is stabilized and they are allowed to the scene for vehicle recovery, etc.  They will be allowed to proceed on to the track ONLY with permission of the Race Director.  The family may communicate with or accompany the Medical and Rescue personnel only after the event has been stabilized.
  c. If an injured person is transported off the salt immediately the family may contact Medical or the Race Director who can use the radio to gather information regarding transport and destination of the injured person
  d. If an injured entrant does not have family or support available the Race Director will give the vehicle number to the Clerk of Course who can get contact information from the entry form on file and pass on information to the relevant parties

Resume Racing

    Once Rescue and Medical have returned to their standby positions the Race Director will inform all course staff that racing will resume.
  a. Start up will be the same as morning start up
