INTRODUCTORY MODULE

 

RACE DIRECTOR - LV1

 

For those officials who seek to officiate and perform the role of Race Director, assume a team-leader role.

 

The three primary officials at Speed Week are, the Race Director, Clerk of Course and Race Secretary (Race Control).

The clerk of course is generally directly dependent on the Race Director.

 

The race director has the ‘overriding authority’ of track operations during Speed Week.
Works with the Clerk of the Course to give out orders.

 

Prerequisite for this module is completion of the Introductory Module and issue of a DLRA Trainee Officials Licence.

 

Duties of the Race Director

The race director has the following duties:

  • Has control of the race and can propose to the Start Line and Timing Officials, and Fire and Rescue crew and Medical Team any modifications to the timetable.
  • Will determine when the weather conditions are not safe for racing or suitable for setting records.
  • Shall have overriding authority over the Clerk of the Course.
  • Check and approve the setup and layout of the tracks the day prior to racing commencing.
  • Responsible for starting the race, suspending it and the use of the Safety Car.
  • Controls the use of entrant support vehicles.
  • Observes and approves Rookies making their first pass
  • Observes all licencing passes including correct deployment of a parachute for a 175mph car licencing pass.
  • Approves entrants licences when they have attained their next speed milestone.
  • Respond and report on all racing incidents.
  • Responsabile for conduct of entrants and spectatrors on the lake.

  • Identify the roles and structure at DLRA events
  • Illustrate protocols for communication within a land speed environment.
  • Demonstrate conflict resolution techniques
